Baseline Measurement: Determine the athlete's speed baseline under different loads, usually established through a one-repetition maximum (1RM) test or multiple repetition tests.
1RM (One-Repetition Maximum) is the maximum amount of weight an individual can lift for one complete repetition of a given exercise, using proper form.
It is often used to assess an athlete's maximum strength and to create personalized training programs.
For example, if someone can squat 100 kg for only one rep but not a second, their 1RM for the squat is 100 kg. Trainers use percentages of 1RM to prescribe different intensities for strength training, such as 70% of 1RM for endurance or 85% for hypertrophy (muscle growth).
